The Community Development Director plans and
supervises the work of the Department and serves as the Village’s primary
land use and development planner. The Director prepares long range planning
studies and advises the Plan Commission and Board of Trustees regarding
adoption and implementation of various plans for the physical development of
the community. The Director serves as the primary staff liaison to the
development community.
The Planner's primary area of responsibility
is zoning administration. The Planner acts as the Village’s zoning
administrator providing public information and services related to the
administration of the Zoning Ordinance. The Planner reviews building and
sign permits to ensure compliance with the Zoning and Sign Ordinances,
disseminates public information regarding planning and zoning, enforces
violations of the Zoning Ordinance and related Village codes, and assists
the Director as staff liaison to the Plan Commission/Zoning Board of
Appeals. The Planner performs various special projects for the Community
Development Director as may be directed.
The Deputy Building Commissioner conducts
residential building inspections and oversees the work of consultants who
are responsible for plan reviews and non-residential inspections. The Deputy
Building Commissioner has primary responsibility for all matters related to
the building code enforcement regulations of the Village.
The Building and Zoning Assistant is
responsible for processing of building permit applications; providing
building and zoning code information to the public, coordination of plan
review and inspection services, and administration of the Village’s permit
system software program.
The Administrative Secretaries provides clerical support to all
Department programs and personnel. Additionally, the Administrative
Secretary performs most duties of the Building and Zoning Assistant in the
absence of the Building and Zoning Assistant.
The Department's operations are focused
on long range planning and enforcement of the Village's
building, zoning, and subdivision ordinances. The
re-organization implemented during this fiscal year has
enabled the Department to increase its services and to
substantially reduce costs.
