Mission Statement
The mission of the Community Development Department is to assist the community in preparing, administering and implementing community development policies and ordinances that result in the highest quality standards of appearance and convenience for the Village of Burr Ridge. In pursuit of this mission, the Department is responsible for implementing the Village's Comprehensive Land Use Plan, Subdivision Ordinance, Zoning Ordinance, Sign Ordinance, Building Code, and Property Maintenance Code. The Department provides staff support to the Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals. The Community Development Department is responsible for preparing long range plans and for the various tools intended to implement the Village's long range plans.

The Community Development Director plans and supervises the work of the Department and serves as the Village Planner and Zoning Administrator. The Director prepares long range planning studies and advises the Plan Commission and Board of Trustees regarding adoption and implementation of various plans for the physical development of the community. The Director assists residents with zoning and building permit matters and serves as the primary staff liaison to the development community.
The Building and Zoning Assistant is responsible for processing building permit applications; providing building and zoning code information to the public, coordination of plan review and inspection services, and administration of the Village’s permit system software program.
Plan reviews and inspections for buldiing permits are done by outside contractors. All questions and inquiries regarding plan reviews and inspections should first be directed to the Building and Zoning Assistant.
The Village's Code Compliance Officer is a part time position that responds to Inquiries regarding potential violations of the Village's zoning and nuisance regulations. Inquires and complaints regarding maintenance of private properties (such as unmowed yards or trash and debris), construction without a permit, home businesses, and similar concerns may be directed to the Code Compliance Officer.
The Community Development Secretary is a part time position that provides clerical support for all Department programs and personnel.
