The Community Development Department is responsible for the administration of the Village's Zoning and Building Ordinances. The tabs on this page provide basic information about zoning regulations, building codes, and related procedures.

Please remember that the Village's building and zoning regulations were created by and for the benefit of Village residents. All zoning and building standards are approved by the Board of Trustees, with the advice of the Plan Commission, and only after review and consideration at public meetings. The contribution of Village residents as members of the Board of Trustees and the Plan Commission, and paritcipation of residents at public meetings is a primary reason why Burr Ridge is A Very Special Place.

The mission of the Community Development Department is to assist residents in complying with these regulations. The Village of Burr Ridge Zoning Ordinance allows certain business activities on residential propeties that are conducted by the residents of the property and are clearly incidental and secondary to the principal residential use. Although a permit, business license or other Village approval is NOT required for a home occupation, all home occupations must comply with the specific regulations contained in Section IV.K of the Zoning Ordinance. The Village of Burr Ridge Zoning Ordinance generally restricts parking on residential properties to the parking of personal, passenger vehicles only. The rules and regulations pertaining to the parking and storage of commercial vehicles and recreational vehicles on residential properties may be downloaded via the following links:
