WATER

WASTEWATER COLLECTION AND TREATMENT

The Village of Burr Ridge is serviced by 3 wastewater treatment facilities.  Those properties within Cook County are served by wastewater treatment facilities under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD).

Costs for maintenance/operations of the MWRD treatemnt plant and major collection sewers are paid through property taxes.  Costs to maintain all local sewers are paid through user charges paid to the Village of Burr Ridge. 

Properties generally located north of I-55 and in DuPage County are served by the Hinsdale Sanitary District.  The sanitary sewer collection system is also under the jurisdiction of the Hinsdale Sanitary District. 

Those properties located south of I-55 are served by a wastewater treatment facility under the jurisdiction of DuPage County.  The sanitary sewer collection system is also under the jurisdiction of DuPage County.

SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL/RECYCLING

Solid waste disposal, including the collection of recyclables, is handled by private arrangement of each business with one of the scavenger services licensed to operate commercially in Burr Ridge.

Recyclable materials include newsprint, aluminum cans, green glass, brown glass, white glass, plastics (such as milk, water and juice bottles, bleach and detergent bottles, margarine tubs, peanut butter jars and six-pack rings), tin cans, magazines, corrugated cardboard, brown paper bags, aluminum foil and baking pans, empty aerosol cans.

POLICE PROTECTION 

Police protection is provided by the Village of Burr Ridge. There are 15 full-time Patrol Officers, 2 Investigators, 4 Corporals, 4 Sergeants, 1 Chief of Police, 1 deputy Chief of Police and 4 civilian clerks, for a total of 31 employed by the Village. All officers are trained in accordance with the requirements of the Illinois Local governmental Law Enforcement Officers Training Board. Police dispatching and E-9-1-1 services for the Village of Burr Ridge are provided through the Southwest Central Dispatch Agency. 

The Burr Ridge Police Department is a member of CJIS (Criminal Justice Information System) in DuPage County. This system links the Police Department with 25 other police departments throughout DuPage County and provides a county-wide data base as well as records management and crime reporting statistics.

FIRE PROTECTION AND AMBULANCE SERVICES

Fire protection and ambulance services are provided by the Tri-State and Pleasantview Fire Protection Districts. Tri-State serves that portion of Burr Ridge west of County Line Road and south of Plainfield Road, while Pleasantview serves the rest of the Village. Both fire districts are taxing bodies separate from the Village and serve more than Burr Ridge.

PUBLIC WORKS

In addition to operating the water system and the sanitary sewers in the Cook County portion of the Village, the Public Works Department is responsible for approximately 70 miles of streets and 75 cul-de-sacs, including maintenance, snow removal, street signs, street lights, street trees (planting and removal) and storm sewers. Also, the Public Works Department maintains approximately 30 acres of open space owned by the Village, the lakes included in Village-owned open space and Village-owned buildings. The Public Works Department oversees the Village's annual Tree Program, taking responsibility for planting trees in open areas where no trees previously existed or as replacements for trees which had been removed due to disease, old age, large broken branches, vandalism, salt, drought or insect damage or unknown reasons.
