Sangria & Sinatra Concert Afternoon (rescheduled)

Good wine. Good music. Great time.  October 11th will be a very special afternoon at Burr Ridge Village Center. Mark your calendars now for the first annual Sangria & Sinatra event!

Grab your dancing shoes and arrive early for complimentary dance lessons from the new Fred Astaire Dance Studio. Steps include Foxtrot, Rumba, Waltz, Hustle and more. These fun and easy dance lessons will take place from 3:00-3:45 p.m, no partner required.   Next, find a spot for your chairs or blankets and get ready for a rat-packed afternoon of tunes from Chicago's Singing Sensation, Peter Oprisko, from 4-6:30 p.m. on the new Village Green.  Now, relax and soak up the last lazy days of summer. Enjoy a glass of cold sangria or other wine varietals available from Coopers Hawk Winery, on site at the event!  Face painters and balloon artists will be on site for children's activities and watch for the Good Humor Ice ream truck to roll in with all your favorite summer treats after the show.

Indian Prairie Public Library Promotes Library Card Signup

September is National Library Card Sign-up Month and the Indian Prairie Public Library at 401 Plainfield in Darien is urging everyone to come in and get a library card. First-time cardholders will get a “buy one, get one free” coupon from the new Buona Beef in Darien and be entered into a drawing for gift cards to Buona Beef and a free overnight stay at Springhill Suites in Burr Ridge.  Kids will get special coupons and a prize from the treasure chest.

Getting a library card is easy – simply present valid identification with a current address such as a driver’s license or utility bill.  Library cards are issued at no charge for the 44,000 taxpayers of the district.  Residents who are not in the library district may purchase an annual family membership for $181 – a great value with a wonderful selection of 170,000+ books, magazines, DVDs, videos, tapes and CDs plus electronic resources! Our expert staff and professional librarians deliver top-notch assistance with reference questions or suggestions for books or movies. Household Hazardous Waste Collection & Recycling News

Spring 2008 Collection Event

DuPage County, the City of Elmhurst and ILEPA announce a Spring 2008 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on Saturday, May 3, 2008, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The event will be at the Elmhurst Public Works Garage, 985 S. Riverside Drive, Elmhurst. DIRECTIONS: north of Roosevelt Road and south of St. Charles Road, on the east side of IL Route 83 (Kingery Highway); take Riverside Drive east from IL Route 83. For the Elmhurst event only:

The Naperville Fire Department accepts Household Hazardous Waste year-round each Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm (except holidays).  Collection takes place behind Fire Station #4, located at 1971 Brookdale Road, just east of Rte. 59, one mile south of I-88.  From Rte. 59, go east on Brookdale Rd.  Please consult the list below for both acceptable and unacceptable items.  For more information, call (630) 420-6142 or visit www.naperville.il.us.

Subsidized Taxi Program Registration

Registration for the subsidized taxi program for senior citizens and persons with disabilities can be arranged by contacting Village Clerk Karen Thomas at 654-8181, extension 101.

To be eligible for the program, you must:

  • Be a resident of Burr Ridge, and
  • Be at least 60 years old, or
  • Have a permanent disability

To register, residents must show two forms of identification evidencing their address, age and social security number. Disabled participants who are less than 60 years old must bring doctor certification of their disability. Photo identification cards and literature explaining the program details will be issued at registration. 111 residents are currently registered for this program.

The program is sponsored in conjunction with the DuPage County Inter-Agency Paratransit Coordinating Council. A contracted taxi company offers service to Burr Ridge participants and accepts pre-purchased coupons for payment. Destination areas include all of DuPage County, the Cook County portion of the Village and that portion of Cook County bordered on the north by Madison Street, on the south by 111th and on the east by Harlem Avenue, as well as both O'Hare and Midway Airports. Taxis are on call 24 hours per day. Rides are paid for using coupons purchased in advance from the Village. Registered participants will be allowed to purchase no more than 20 ride coupons per month. Each coupon is worth $5 of riding time in the taxi, but costs the participant only $2.50.

Voter Registration Information

The deadline to register to vote in the November General Election is October 7, 2008.

Except for those dates when voter registration is closed in accordance with State law, eligible voters may register to vote in all elections by appearing in person at the Village Hall during general office hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).  In order to register, two forms of identification are required, and at least one must show the applicant's current address.  Voters must be at least 18 years of age by election day, a U.S. Citizen, and must be a Burr Ridge resident for at least 30 days prior to the election.  Students in college away from home and permanently disabled voters may enroll in special programs to automatically received ballot applications.

Latex Paint Recycling Program

Do You Have Unwanted Latex Paint?  Residents can drop off their unwanted latex paint during the designated summer collections.  For 2006, collections are concluded.  The usable latex paint will be filtered and reblended into a variety of colors, types and finishes.  Residents, businesses, schools, churches, and community groups can obtain five gallon buckets of the quality-recycled paint for free during the week. Bring it to the DuPage County Latex Paint Recycling Facility at the DuPage County Public Works Woodridge Wastewater Treatment Facility located at 7900 S. Route 53, in Woodridge. 

Do You Need Paint?  DuPage County is offering Free Recycled Latex Paint to residents, businesses, schools and community groups.  Usable latex paint that is dropped off by residents during designated collections is inspected, sorted, filtered and then reblended into five gallon buckets of recycled paint.  The end product is a quality-recycled paint available in a variety of colors, types and finishes.  Residents can pick up recycled paint during the designated summer pick-ups.  For 2006, collections are concluded Residents, businesses, schools, churches and community groups can obtain five gallon buckets of quality recycled paint free at the DuPage County Public Works Woodridge Wastewater Treatment Facility located at 7900 S.
