2008 Road Construction

Village of Burr Ridge Road Program

Project Update: October 3, 2008

This year’s Road Program is nearly complete.  Despite a few weather-related delays, our work has remained on schedule and under budget and this will be the last update for the year.

In the coming week staff is optimistic that all work will be completed, weather permitting including pavement striping on Madison Street, South Frontage Road and Burr Ridge Parkway.  On Longwood Drive, any remaining cracks will be filled with asphalt sealant.  These pavement cuts help the roadway surface to expand and contract during extreme temperature changes.  Seeding on 63rd and 74th Streets was completed.  Any other parkways that were disturbed by the Village’s Road Program will be covered with topsoil and sod.  Newly seeded and sodded areas are watered periodically by our contractor to help establish the grass.

Project Update: September 29, 2008

Pavement striping began last week on portions of Madison Street, 63rd Street, and the Parkview Subdivision streets.  Areas of striping to be completed this week include Burr Ridge Parkway, 74th Street, S. Frontage Road at 83rd Street, and other sections of Madison Street.

On the Parkview Subdivision streets and on Longwood Drive, all sawcut lines are being filled with asphalt sealant.  These pavement cuts help the roadway surface to expand and contract during extreme temperature changes.

Seeding and sodding will commence this week on parkways and shoulders disturbed by this year’s construction.  63rd Street and 74th Street shoulders will be layered with topsoil, seeding, and fabric mulch.  Other parkways will be covered with topsoil and sod.  Newly seeded and sodded areas are watered periodically by our contractor to help establish the grass.

This year’s Road Program is nearly complete.  Despite a few weather-related delays, our work has remained on schedule and under budget.

Project Update: September 22, 2008

All paving work was completed during the past week.

Pavement striping is anticipated to begin this week on portions of Madison Street, Burr Ridge Parkway, and S. Frontage Road at 83rd Street.  All streets paved on this year’s Road Program will also be re-striped to restore stop bars and crosswalks.

On the Parkview Subdivision streets and on Longwood Drive, all sawcut lines will be filled with sealant.  These pavement cuts help the asphalt to expand and contract during extreme temperature changes.

Later this month and after the ground has dried, all landscaping restoration for parkways and shoulders disturbed by this year’s Road Program will commence.  63rd Street and 74th Street shoulders will be layered with topsoil, seeding, and fabric mulch.  Other parkways will be covered with topsoil and sod.

During restoration work, these areas continue to be active construction zones.  All roadways will be open to traffic and only minor delays may occur.  Please drive slowly in these construction zones, and be alert for workers and equipment.

Project Update: September 12, 2008

Madison Street, at the I-55 bridge and south of 91st Street, and South Frontage Road at 83rd Street are scheduled for paving this Saturday, September 13th, weather permitting.  If it rains, work will be rescheduled to Monday, September 15th.  These roadways will be swept again and an oil-based bonding agent sprayed on the old pavement just prior to paving.  These streets will be reduced to one lane with flaggers directing traffic.  Only minor delays should occur and no roadways will be closed.  Please drive slowly in construction zones, and be alert for flaggers, workers and equipment.

On Parkview Subdivision streets and on Longwood Drive, lines are being sawed into the new asphalt surface and filled with sealant.  These lines help asphalt to expand and contract during extreme temperature changes.

Remaining work includes shoulder restoration on 74th Street and pavement striping on various streets.  Other landscaping restoration, where needed, will occur in the coming weeks after all paving has been completed.

Project Update: September 8, 2008

Madison Street, at the I-55 bridge and south of 91st Street, and South Frontage Road at 83rd Street were milled in preparation for paving.  Each will be cleaned again and oil sprayed on the milled surface just prior to paving.  This work is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, and is subject to good weather. These streets will be reduced to one lane with flaggers directing traffic.  Only minor delays should occur and no roadways will be closed.  Please drive slowly in construction zones, and be alert for flaggers, workers and equipment.

This week on Longwood Drive and Parkview Subdivision streets, lines will be sawed into the new asphalt and filled with asphalt sealant.  These lines help the asphalt to expand and contract during extreme temperature changes.

Remaining work includes new pavement striping on various streets and restoration of the shoulders on 63rd, Grant, and 74th Streets.  Shoulder work includes new limestone and grass seed, where needed.  Should

Project Update: September 1, 2008

For your convenience, no work will occur during the Labor Day weekend.  This schedule is weather permitting.

Work has begun in the Parkview subdivision.  Oil was sprayed on each street prior to paving.  This oil bonds new asphalt to the old roadway, but it may adhere temporarily to your tires and track onto driveways.  Please drive slowly to reduce oil on your tires and vehicles.  Parkview Place, Dolfor Cove, Kirkwood Cove, Tamerton Parkway  and 74th Street are scheduled for paving on Tuesday September, 2nd.  Longwood Drive, Grant, 63rd and 74th Streets, are scheduled for paving on Wednesday, September 3rd

Residents on these streets are asked to turn off their lawn sprinkler systems for the next several days.  During dry weather, streets must be kept dry for the paving operations.  When paving, only minor delays should occur and no roadways will be closed.  School buses will operate as usual.  Please drive slowly in construction zones and be alert for workers and equipment.

Project Update: August 27, 2008

All Parkview subdivision streets are scheduled for pavement resurfacing on Friday, August 29th.  Residents on these streets are asked to turn off their lawn sprinkler systems for the next several days.  During dry weather, streets must be kept dry for the paving operations.  Any streets that are not completed on Friday will be paved on Tuesday, September 2nd.

For your convenience, no work will occur during the Labor Day weekend.

Longwood Drive, Grant Street, 63rd Street, and 74th Street, are scheduled for paving next week, on Tuesday (9/2) or Wednesday (9/3).  This schedule is subject to good weather – please check again if rain has delayed work in these areas.

When paving, only minor delays should occur and no roadways will be closed.  School buses will operate as usual.  Please drive slowly in construction zones, and be alert for workers and equipment.

Project Update: August 25, 2008

On Longwood Drive, Grant, 63rd and 74th Streets, and the Parkview subdivision streets, weak sections of pavement will be replaced on Monday through Wednesday.  These streets will be cleaned again in preparation for paving.  Paving should occur on Thursday or Friday.  This schedule is subject to good weather – please check again if rain has delayed work in your area.  Residents on these streets are asked to turn off their lawn sprinkler systems until the roadways have been paved.  Pavement must be kept dry for the paving operations. Oil will be sprayed on each street early in the morning just prior to paving.  This oil bonds new asphalt to the old roadway, but it may adhere temporarily to your tires and track onto driveways.  Please drive slowly to reduce oil on your tires and vehicles.  When paving, only minor delays should occur and no roadways will be closed.  School buses will operate as usual, and no changes to pick-up or drop-off locations will be necessary.  Please drive slowly in construction zones, and be alert for workers and equipment.

Project Update: August 18, 2008

Work continues on Longwood Drive, Grant Street (at 63rd Street), 74th Street, and the Parkview subdivision. The edges of these roadways will be milled to prepare for a new asphalt layer.  Paving on these streets should begin later this month.  After milling, please turn off sprinkler systems to keep pavement dry for our contractor.  While milling, all roadways will be open to traffic and only minor delays may occur.  Sections of concrete curb are also being replaced this week on Longwood Drive, 63rd Street, Parkview subdivision, and Madison Street under I-55.  On 63rd Street, no milling is needed before paving can begin.  Paving on 63rd Street should begin later this month in conjunction with work on Grant Street.  On Madison Street near 94th Street, a broken storm sewer pipe was replaced.  This street will be paved between 91st and 97th Streets in early September.

Project Update: August 11, 2008

Work continues this week on Parkview subdivision streets, Longwood Drive, and Madison Street at the I-55 bridge.  In these areas, sewer manholes and inlets will be repaired, followed by replacement of some curb sections.  On 63rd Street, a new asphalt edge has been constructed.  Later this month, the contractor will return to 63rd Street and Grant Street to pave the final layer over the entire roadway and place new limestone shoulders.  On 74th Street, the Public Works Department replaced a broken storm sewer pipe.  74th Street will be paved later this month between Wolf Road and Forest Hill Road.  Also this month, paving will begin on South Frontage Road at 83rd Street, on Madison Street at the I-55 bridge, and on Madison Street south of 91st Street.  In these construction zones, always be aware of signs, equipment, and workers, and proceed slowly and cautiously.  Our work only occurs during daytime hours, and brief, occasional delays should be expected.  If you have questions or comments please call the Road Program hotline at 630-654-8181, option 8.   Leave a message after the recording and a staff member will respond to your request.

Project Update: August 1, 2008

The 2008 Road Program is underway by Fiala Paving Company of Bolingbrook.

Our work began with the installation of a concrete curb and asphalt widening at the Madison Street railroad crossing.  This work was required by the State for construction of our wayside horn project at that location.  That project, including the stationary horn system, is complete and the BNSF train horns have been silenced.

This week, work continued on the 63rd Street repairs.  The repairs this year build upon our similar work there from last year.  Over the past two days, areas of deteriorated pavement along the north shoulder were removed and replaced with a new stone and asphalt base.  The entire roadway width of 63rd Street and Grant Street will be paved with a new asphalt surface within the next two weeks.  Also, new limestone will be placed along the shoulder edges for a finished and uniform appearance to the roadway.

Next, on the schedule are repairs to the concrete curb throughout the 2008 Road Program streets.  Curb repair includes replacement of some sections, and patching others.  Curb repairs will begin on Monday, August 4th, along Grant Street, Longwood Drive, and roadways in the Parkview subdivision.

The work on other streets in this year’s Road Program will commence in a coordinated and timely manner.  By the end of September 2008, all work for this year’s Road Program will be completed.
