The fundamental mission of the Burr Ridge Police Department is to work closely with the Community to prevent Crime and disorder, and to enhance the safety of its citizens. In support of this mission, recognition of these nine principles is essential.
Bicycle Patrol Program:The Police Department Bicycle Patrol Program was inaugurated in July of 1997. Eight officers are presently assigned to the unit and provide extended patrols throughout the community during all shifts, as required. The program is intended to provide an extended, high visibility police presence on pathways, in parks, in commercial areas and at various special events. The program, an example of the Department's commitment to reach out into the community to provide both Crime prevention and problem-solving, is modeled after successful bicycle patrols in other communities. When you see officers on bicycle patrol, please welcome them to your neighborhood. Located in the Police Department, 7660 S. County Line Road The Police Records Division is responsible for the management and coordination of police records. This includes all police reports, accidents and citations. The Records Division is open to the public 12 hours per day, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00am to 8:00pm. Police reports may be filed at any time. Either call 911 for an officer to report to your residence or place of business, or use the red phone outside the front door to connect with the dispatch center. The Administrative Phone line (630) 323-8181 may be used during business hours, or to contact the police after hours mailbox. Your call will be answered at the first available opportunity during non-business hours. Do not use this line to report an emergency situation! Please Dial 9-1-1 for any situation which requires a police officer to respond to the scene! Requests for police reports should be made in person at the Burr Ridge Police Department Records Section. Copies of most accident reports are available upon request. These reports are free to Village Residents and at 18 cents per page to non-residents. Copies of accident reports involving reconstruction of the accident are available at a cost of $25 each after the reconstruction is complete. Copies of accident reports involving crimes or deaths are subject to the rules cited under the Freedom of Information Act (Illinois Compiled Statutes, 5 ILCS 140/1-7). Other types of reports may be obtained by filing a Freedom of Information (FOIA) request. These reports will be released according to the provisions outline in the Act. The cost for these reports is 18 cents per page. The Chief of Police reviews all reports released under the FOIA. BE INVOLVED AND HELP US TAKE A BITE OUT OF CRIME The Burr Ridge Police Department stresses a pro-active, preventive philosophy
which directly involves citizens in crime prevention strategies. A Crime
Prevention Specialist is now available to assist citizens with home and business
security surveys and neighborhood watch programs.
Police personnel may be scheduled to provide crime prevention information which
may deter criminal activity and enhance personal security. For further
information regarding crime prevention programs, contact Officer Zucchero at 323-8181. Crimestoppers Help the Burr Ridge Police Department combat crime by reporting suspicious activity. Under Village Ordinance, persons under 18 are subject to curfew restrictions between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and between midnight and 6 a.m. on weekends. Under state curfew restrictions, persons under 17 years of age in violation of curfew are also subject to suspension of driving privileges. Please know where your teens are going and with whom. Bicyclists using Village streets must observe the same rules-of-the-road that apply to driving an automobile. It's best to walk bicycles across streets. We recommend that bicyclists wear helmets for safety. Please note that the Village Code states that bicyclists are not intended users of the sidewalks. In other words, Village sidewalks were not designed to accommodate bicyclists and anyone riding his/her bicycle on the sidewalk should use caution.
Project DARE Identity Theft on the Rise; Don't become a Victim Identity theft has been called the fastest growing crime of the Millennium. It is popular with criminals because it is easy to commit, and is considered a faceless, victimless crime. Victims of identity theft would disagree since, on average, they spend $18,000 of their own money and 175 hours clearing their name and credit. The average amount stolen per victim is $18,000.

Scrutinize the credit report for errors, new accounts (credit or utility) or address changes. Report inaccuracies immediately. Do not carry unnecessary credit cards or ID, especially Social Security cards. DO NOT RESPOND to e-mails from banks, credit card companies or internet commerce sites such as Amazon, Ebay or America Online. These companies will NEVER ask for personal information via e-mail. Be careful who you provide personal information to without knowing what is required, how or by whom it will be used. Do not send mail from a home mailbox as thieves look for the “red flag” to alert them to outgoing mail. Finally, do not leave wallets or purses in cars since car burglaries are the easiest way to gain access to personal information. For further information, you can visit the Federal Trade Commission's web site at www.consumer.gov/idtheft/ or contact the Burr Ridge Police Department.
