Proposed Code Amendments

Public Notice – Amendments to Burr Ridge Municipal Code and Building Ordinance

The Board of Trustees is requesting public comment regarding certain amendments to the Municipal Code and Building Ordinance. One amendment would establish new times that outside construction and property/landscape maintenance could be performed. The other amendments would change the deadlines for completing exterior work on a residential construction project. The purpose of these amendments is to reduce the impact of construction and noise for the benefit of neighboring properties. The proposed amendments are as follows:

  • The first amendment would change the hours when outside construction would be permitted; require that specified holidays follow Sunday hours (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas); and require the same restricted hours for operation of machines used for property maintenance, such as lawnmowers, saws, leaf blowers, etc. The current and proposed hours are as follows:
Current (construction, only): Proposed (including property maintenance):
Monday through Friday: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (including Holidays)
  • Separate amendments are being considered to further incentivize contractors to expedite completion of outdoor work for homes and additions. The amendments would increase fees for extensions and restrict work to the completion of the exterior building and landscape if the exterior is not finished after a prescribed period of time.
