BNSF Metra Proposes Changes to BNSF Routes

Metra BNSF line proposes schedule revisions

Metra’s BNSF line to revise schedule due to Positive Train Control, (PTC) a federally mandated safety system. 


The PTC system is programmed to automatically stop a train if the engineer fails to obey a signal or exceeds the speed limit. Because of this new system, trains will have to undergo more checkpoints before turning – or “flipping” – a train back the other direction.
